New Moon's Robert Pattinson: Twilight saga is an abstinence metaphor
NEW Moon's Robert Pattinson has said that despite the Twilight saga's lead characters only sharing a kiss in the first three books, the story is still sexy.
Robert Pattinson, 23, plays vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight movie series - the love interest for human teen Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart).
But Edward's traditional beliefs and worries for Bella's safety forbid the pair from having sex before marriage
Robert thinks the simmering tension coupled with other elements in the story are enough to dub it 'sexy'.
He told a British newspaper: "Twilight is a big metaphor for sexual abstinence, and yet it's erotic underneath."
He has previously said that he found it difficult to take his character seriously when researching the role because of the way Cullen is represented.
"But the description of my character is, from the first page on, completely ridiculous. It says, 'He enters a room, and his beauty is almost painful'."
